Marie Terlinden: Bethel University’s Presidents’ Student Leadership Award Recipient

Marie Terlinden

Marie Terlinden is a senior student at Bethel University majoring in Spanish Education and TESL programs. Marie has been actively involved in providing ESL services to area schools and other afterschool programs, serving immigrant populations in the greater metro area.

Marie recently returned from participating in an academic course focusing on justice issues and human trafficking in Cambodia. Marie also studied abroad in Spain for a semester getting advanced level training for Spanish education. While in Spain, she also taught English to grade school students in Spain as part of her service projects.

During fall 2010, Marie was Bethel’s contact person for the Liberty in North Korea event, bringing awareness of injustices in NK to campus. She organized many events to bring knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by people of North Korea. In spring 2010, Marie went on the spring break mission trip to New Orleans to serve the communities continuing to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She also participated on a mission trip to provide community service among the impoverished communities in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Marie has served as a teacher’s assistant in the Modern World Languages department and continuing to work as career peer counselor in the Career Services Office at Bethel University. Marie is currently is student teaching at Osseo Senior High School, working with English language learners.

Marie embodies Bethel’s spirit of service and leadership, so it with great delight she is nominated to receive the MN Campus Compact Presidents’ Student Leadership Award.
