Yellowjacket Football Team: Rochester Community and Technical College’s Student Leadership Award Recipient

The Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjacket Football Team is not only a state champion team, but the athletes are actively involved in the Rochester community. They were invited by the Zumbro Valley Medical Society Alliance to participate in the “Walk to School” Day at Bamber Valley Elementary School; encouraging children to exercise and live healthy lives.

During the 2nd Annual Halloween Party hosted by RCTC and Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Southeastern Minnesota for military families, athletes were escorts for the costumed children and families, helping with activities and carving pumpkins together.

At the RCTC Winter Youth Football Camp, football players worked with over 130 children, grades 1-8, teaching drills, physical fitness, workouts and demonstrating football plays.  They were an integral part of the coaching team.

Each Friday, a group of athletes go to Ben Franklin Elementary School and read with the children.  They have a positive relationship with many of the children and have become role models that any parent would be pleased to have for their child.

RCTC is proud of the Yellowjacket Football Team, not only on the field of play, but also by their engagement with the youth in our community; demonstrating leadership skills for life.
