Eastside Neighborhood Services: University of Saint Thomas’ Presidents’ Community Partner Award Recipient

The agency serves both Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis and was founded in the settlement house tradition of being a gathering place for the community to learn, grow and organize.  Its mission to foster the healthy development and well-being of individuals and families while strengthening our diverse community had a superb fit with our hallmark of social justice which we teach and practice in the School of Social Work. Since our modest start in 2006-2007 with 2 junior students, the number of students both junior and senior has grown to 10 in this school year.  Juniors complete a 200-hour experience, seniors a 400-hour one. Students work specifically in the Family Violence Program where they empower court-mandated individuals to learn skills that bring a positive dynamic to their family relationships. Many of the clients receiving these services are members of immigrant and refugees groups currently settling in the Metro area.
