Jackie Carlson

Jackie is a junior peace studies major with a double minor in environmental studies and management. Her college experience is characterized by her commitment to service and civic engagement. She was recently named a Phillips Scholar through the Minnesota Private Colleges Council for designing a service leadership program which will focus on at-risk high school students at Southside Boys & Girls Club and will be implemented in summer 2011.

Jackie is also a student employee for the Service Learning Department, a Co-Intern for the Bonner Leader Program, a Big Sister through the Big Brothers Big Sister program of Central Minnesota, and a member of an on campus group called the Sustainability Alliance. Additionally, she is volunteering with a group of community leaders to open a cooperative in St. Joseph, MN.  Jackie is also co-leader of a student-led Alternative Break Experience to Kansas City, Missouri to serve at a daycare for at-risk youth.   Jackie has presented at several national conferences focused on social justice and aspires to work at a nonprofit dedicated to youth empowerment and advocacy. She is very deserving of this recognition.
